Description
CYCLUS TOOLS Brake Disc Tester
With the CYCLUS TOOLS brake rotor tester, bike owners and mechanics can quickly and easily determine when it's time to replace the brake rotor. This is important for preventing unexpected brake problems and ensuring safe and reliable braking.
Regular checks with this tester ensure that the brake disc is in perfect condition and maximizes its lifespan. Each brake disc has a wear limit specified by the manufacturer ( MIN TH = Minimum Thickness ). This value must not be exceeded, otherwise braking performance will be reduced and the cyclist's safety will be compromised.
Most brake rotors are marked by the manufacturer with a wear limit. For example: Shimano Min th = 1.5.
Operation
The brake disc to be tested must be clean to avoid affecting the test result. Set the tester to the manufacturer's specified wear limit (MIN TH). Then use the locking wheel.
Then, place the tester's probes on the brake surface, ensuring they are roughly perpendicular to the brake disc. Avoid testing near holes or slots. Fully depress the probe and read the wear reserve on the scale. Check at several positions to ensure accurate results.
The tester indicates how much wear reserve your brake disc has (in 0.1 mm increments). The "STOP" position indicates that the brake disc needs to be replaced.
Important note
Brake disc manufacturers specify a wear limit ( MIN TH ) that must not be exceeded at any point. If the minimum thickness is exceeded, braking function, and therefore safety, is no longer guaranteed.
New brake pads may only be fitted if the minimum thickness is not exceeded.
