Fatbike Malfunction? Check your error code here (V20, OUXI V8 & ENGWE)

, by TJB Trading, 7 min reading time

Geen ondersteuning, 0 km/u of een E-code op je fatbike-display? Check eerst deze praktische controles en foutcodetabellen voor V20, OUXI V8 en ENGWE.

Are you getting an E-code on your display or is your fatbike suddenly acting up? Such as: no assist, throttle not working, 0 km/h on your screen, or a bike that cuts out when accelerating. Then you're not alone.

At TopTier Parts, we are experts in the technical field. We like to keep it simple: we make it easy for you with a clear list of fatbike error codes for the V20, OUXI V8 and ENGWE, plus the most common causes we see in practice. This way, you'll quickly know if it's a minor issue (connector/brake contact) or if something truly needs replacing.

The most common fatbike problems (that we see most often)

These are the complaints that come in most frequently:

Fatbike doesn't accelerate / no assist

Often this is a brake contact (the bike "thinks" you are braking), or a pedal sensor (pedal assist) that isn't sending a signal.

Throttle does nothing or works intermittently

Usually: throttle error code, cable/connector, or the throttle is not properly connected.

Display works, but motor remains dead

In this case, you're often looking at motor ↔ controller communication or a controller error.

Speed remains 0 km/h

9 out of 10 times it's the speed sensor/magnet (distance/alignment).

Battery seems full, but suddenly drops/cuts out

Can be caused by BMS/battery communication or voltage dropping under load.

Motor hums but doesn't engage

This often indicates a motor phase or hall sensor issue (ENGWE often shows this as a separate error).

Quick checks before ordering parts (saves you a lot of hassle)

Honestly: many "malfunctions" are just loose connectors or moisture.

  • Battery off/on (mini-reset)

  • Check all connectors (display, controller, motor, pedal sensor/assist) – firmly seated, no play

  • Check brake levers: is one stuck? (brake contact remains “on”)

  • Speed sensor + magnet: usually, they need to pass 2–5 mm apart

  • Got wet? Let connectors dry and check for moisture/oxidation

Error codes per model: V20, OUXI V8 and ENGWE

OUXI V8 – all codes

OUXI V8 “old type” display/controller (E0 to E13)

  • E0 – Normal operating status

  • E01 – Reserve

  • E02 – Braking system fault

  • E03 – Pedal sensor / pedal assist fault

  • E04 – 6 km/h “cruise/walk assist”

  • E05 – Low voltage protection (setting/voltage)

  • E06 – Low battery voltage

  • E07 – Motor fault

  • E08 – Throttle fault

  • E09 – Controller fault

  • E10 – Communication receive fault

  • E11 – Communication transmit fault

  • E12 – BMS/battery communication fault

  • E13 – (Large) headlight/front light fault

OUXI V8 display 2.0 (V8 2.0–3.0 / H9) – codes shown by this display

  • E01 – No connection motor ↔ controller

  • E02 – Throttle fault

  • E03 – Controller fault

  • E04 – Brake (contact)/brake cable fault

  • E05 – Voltage protection / voltage setting

  • E06 – Display receives no data (communication)

  • E07 – Controller receives no data (communication)

Note: E08–E13 are usually seen on the old type display, not on all “2.0” displays.

QMWheels / Fatbike V20 PRO – all codes (as common in NL)

  • E00 – General system fault

  • E01 – Communication fault motor ↔ controller

  • E02 – Speed sensor fault

  • E03 – Pedal sensor / pedal assist fault

  • E04 – Motor overload / short circuit

  • E05 – Speed sensor fault

  • E06 – Pedal assist malfunction

  • E08 – Motor/controller overheating

  • E10 – Display fault

  • E11 – Throttle fault

  • E12 – Motor or controller short circuit

  • E13 – Battery voltage too low

  • E14 – Battery communication fault

  • E15 – Controller fault

  • E16 – Motor/controller overheating

  • E17 – Motor protection fault

  • E18 – Motor phase/motor winding problem

  • E19 – Battery/BMS communication fault

  • E20 – Throttle fault (check setting P06)

  • E40 – Motor fault or motor controller problem

ENGWE – all codes (depending on display/protocol)

ENGWE uses multiple displays; therefore, there are 2 common “sets” of error codes:

Set 1: E001 to E006 (often seen on YL-01/YL-02-like protocols)

  • E001 – Controller failure

  • E002 – Communication failure

  • E003 – Hall failure (hall sensor in motor)

  • E004 – Throttle failure

  • E005 – Brake failure (brake contact)

  • E006 – Motor phase failure

Set 2: E021 to E025 + E030 (often seen on YL-05 / KDS / YL-J-like protocols)

  • E021 – Current failure (current deviation)

  • E022 – Throttle failure

  • E023 – Motor phase failure

  • E024 – Hall failure (hall sensor)

  • E025 – Brake failure (brake contact)

  • E030 – Communication failure (display ↔ controller)
